A traditional Russian folksong is arranged here for unison or two-part choir, piano, and optional violin or clarinet (available as a free download from the publisher's website). Like other folksongs of this era, the verses are set to riddles and their answers. In Broeker's arrangement, instrumental interludes between verses add reflection and local color to this poignant song. Very nicely done.
